SS Ahluwalia to head joint parliamentary panel on land bill

BJP’s Vice President and former Union minister SS Ahluwalia has been appointed as the Chairman of a Joint Committee of Parliament that will go into the provisions of the land acquisition bill. Ahluwalia, a BJP Lok Sabha member from Darjeeling, West Bengal, has appointed by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Some allies of NDA Government (Shiv Sena and Akali Dal) and also all the opposition parties are against the controversial land acquisition bill. The opposition parties label the Prime Minister as Anti-farmer and pro-corporate.

The Committee will consist of 30 members. Out of this 20 are from Lok Sabha and 10 are from Rajya Sabha. The government had promulgated ordinance for two times on the bill since December. Also the NDA Government faced continuous resistance from all parties all over India, except the few. It had agreed to refer it to the committee, during the recently concluded Parliament session.
