Nasa Scientist find evidence of flowing water on Mars

Scientists have for the first time confirmed liquid water flowing on the surface of  Mars, a finding that will add to speculation that life, if it ever arose there, could persist now that gives possible niches for life. NASA researchers uses an imager aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter which confirmed the water flows.

Reliance Foundation, Tata Power, Apollo receive Porter Prize

Reliance Foundation, JSW and Apollo were among several organisations that won the prestigious Porter Prize 2015. A total of nine enterprises bagged the in different categories out of the nearly 30 companies that were shortlisted. Porter Prize, named after Michael E. Porter who is Professor at Harvard Business School, living legend and father of modern strategy field, recognizes the strategic acumen of corporates in India.

September 29 – World Heart Day

World Heart Day is observed on September 29 every year since 2000 to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention. The aim is to improve health globally by encouraging people to make lifestyle changes and promoting education internationally about ways to be good to the heart. This year, World Heart Day’s theme is creating heart-healthy environments.

Sachin Tendulkar lends voice to Swachh Bharat Anthem

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has lent his voice to Swachh Bharat anthem, created under a government initiative to make the “Clean India” campaign a public movement. The anthem, composed by musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and sung by Shankar Mahadevan and others, will be released on October 2, marking one year of the launch of Swachh Bharat campaign on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Reserve Bank of India cuts Repo Rate by 50 basis points

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) cut its repo rate by 50 basis points to 6.75%, while keeping the cash reserve ratio (CRR) unchanged at 4%. This is the fourth rate cut since January. The central bank has also cut the FY16 gross domestic product (GDP) growth target to 7.4% from 7.6% earlier.

Lifetime achievement award for Shashi Kapoor

Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor will be honoured with lifetime achievement award at the 6th Jagran Film Festival. Kapoor, 77, has worked in movies like Deewaar, Namak Halaal, Satyam Shivam SundaramSuhaag apart from doing English film projects including, The Householder, Shakespeare Wallah and Muhafiz. The 6th edition of Jagran Film Festival is scheduled from September 28 to October 4 at Fun Cinemas, Andheri.

INS Kochi commissioned into Indian Navy

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has commissioned INS Kochi, a Kolkata-class Guided Missile Destroyer, to the Indian Navy. It is a second ship of the three ships Kolkata-class Guided Missile Destroyer to be inducted. Earlier in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had commissioned INS Kolkata. The third and last ship of Kolkata-class Guided Missile Destroyer INS Chennai is expected to join Indian Navy in 2016.

India-Sri Lanka Joint Military Exercise MITRA SHAKTI 2015 begins in Pune

MITRA SHAKTI 2015, the third edition of India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise has begun at Aundh Military Station in Pune. The exercise seeks to build Military to Military co-operation and interoperability. It would be held over a period of 14 days, with the basic objective of enhancing confidence and trust between the two militaries, which are often called upon to engage in anti-terrorism operations.

Senior BJP leader Ram Kapse passes away

Senior BJP leader Ram Kapse passed away due to prolonged illness at the age of 82. Kapse, born on December 1, 1933, had earlier served as Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He was a prominent leader of BJP in Maharashtra and represented Thane in the ninth and tenth Lok Sabhas.

Wipro selected as member of Dow Jones Sustainability World Index

Wipro has announced that it has been selected as a member of the global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) – 2015 for the sixth year in succession. Wipro is included in both the DJSI World and Emerging Markets Indices. A total of 1,845 companies were assessed from around the world of which 317 have been chosen as the DJSI World constituents for the year 2015-16. The IT Services sector saw 76 companies participating globally of which 8 have been selected for the World Index.

Union Ministry of Road Transport launched Green Highways Policy, 2015

Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari launched Green Highways (Plantation, Transplantation, Beautification and Maintenance) Policy, 2015. The policy that seeks to promote green covers along National Highway corridors was launched at the National Conference in New Delhi. The aim of the policy is to promote greening of Highway corridors with participation of the community, farmers, private sector, NGOs, and government institutions.

Microsoft launches commercial cloud services from local datacentres in India

Microsoft has launched its local datacentres in India, which will offer its Azure cloud services. Office 365 services will be available from October 2015. Dynamics CRM Online services will follow suite early next year. The company has opened three data centres in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai. Microsoft also expects an impact on Indian citizens as this move holds potential to accelerate e-governance and roll-out of citizen services by governments, thereby pushing the Digital India and Smart Cities programme.

Defence Minister to Lay the Foundation Stone for BEL’s Defence Systems Integration Complex in AP

Navratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is setting up a Defence Systems Integration Complex at Palasamudram, Gorantala Mandal in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh. It will be the largest such facility in the country once it is commissioned, covering an area of over 900 acres. The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will lay the foundation stone for this facility.

Google, RailTel join hands for one of the world’s largest Wi-Fi projects

Internet major Google and state-run RailTel Corp of India have joined hands to equip 400 railways station in the country with high speed Wi-Fi networks, making it one of the largest public Wi-Fi projects in the world. The Wi-Fi project was announced by Google’s India-born CEO Sunder Pichai after his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Renowned Hindi poet Viren Dangwal passes away

Renowned Hindi poet Viren Dangwal passed away after a prolonged illness. He was 68. Viren Dangwal was born 1947 in Kirtinagar, Uttaranchal. He was one of the leading Hindi poets. He had published three collections of poetry namely Isi Dushchakra Mein Srashta, Duniya Mein and Siyahi Taal.HIs famous poem collection Dushchakra me Shrista had earned him prestigious Sahitya Academy award in 2004.

Housing.com appoints Keerthi Kiran as VP of realty projects division

Realty portal Housing.com has announced the appointment of Keerthi Kiran as the vice President of its new real estate projects division. Keerthi has been with Housing.com for almost two years now having served in various capacities across the business. In his new role, Keerthi will report to Housing.com’s Chief Business Officer, Jason Kothari.

IRDAI fines ICICI Lombard Rs 10 lakh for violating insurance norms

IRDAI has imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company for violating various insurance norms including modification of policy wordings. In a case related with enrollment of khadi workers under Rajiv Gandhi Shilpi Swasthya Bima Yojana (RGSSBY) in Rajasthan during policy year 2009-10, Irda said the insurer enrolled some beneficiaries soon after receipt of enrollment forms and didn’t wait for full receipt of their share of premium.

Indo-British van driver Dee Patel honoured with Pride of Britain Award

Prince Charles of Britain awarded Indo-British van driver Dee Patel with the Pride of Britain Award in the outstanding bravery category. Patel had risked his life to save others. The Pride of Britain Awards was founded by Peter Willis in 1999. It is an annual award ceremony which takes place in the United Kingdom. The award is given to British people who have shown immense bravery in the hours of crisis.

Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani Launches National Institutional Ranking Framework Document and Webportal

Union HRD Minister launched the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for educational institutions. Developed by a team of experts in education and heads of institutions, the portal and the framework is presently available for engineering and management institutions. Over the next month, methodologies, parameters and process for ranking universities along with architecture and planning institutions would also be available online.
