Odisha bags 9th Global Agriculture Leadership Award 2016

Odisha has bagged the 9th Global Agriculture Leadership Award 2016 in recognition of its efforts towards development of agriculture and bringing rural prosperity.Odisha Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Pradip Maharathy received the award from Haryana Governor K S Solanki at a function at New Delhi.

Patanjali launches mega food park at Nagpur industrial hub

Yoga guru Ramdev-promoted Patanjali Ayurveda launched its mega food park on a 230-acre land at an industrial hub in Nagpur, promising to employ 10,000 people and engage 50,000 farmers of the region in trade. The company plans to develop Rs.1,000-crore food park at Multi-model International Cargo Hub and Airport, Nagpur (MIHAN), where juices would be made from famous Nagpuri oranges and for the first time packaged as a brand.

Railways introduces ‘surge pricing’ in Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains

The Railways introduced the surge pricing system on the Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains. Under the new ‘flexi fare system’, usually followed by airlines, the base fare of tickets will increase with the rising demand. The new fare structure will, however, not be applicable to 1AC and executive class coaches.

Rajnath Singh commissions offshore patrolling vessel Sarathi in Goa

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned the offshore patrolling (OPV) vessel, Sarathi, at Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), the defence shipyard in south Goa. This vessel is the third in the series of six OPVs built by the shipyard for Indian Coast Guard. The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Director General of Indian Coast Guard Vice Admiral Rajendra Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of GSL Shekhar Mittal, commanding officer of OPV Sarathi Atul Joshi and others.

India-US Economic Summit to discuss bilateral trade

Leaders from business, government and academia will deliberate on ways to enhancebilateral trade and investments between India and the US during a two-day summit. The chamber’s North India council is hosting the function. Starting from September 13, the Indo-US Economic Summit “will deliberate on augmenting the existing two-way trade to $500 billion and will focus on sectors that foster growth,” Indo-American Chamber of Commerce said in a statement. Jamie Murray-Bruno Soares win US Open doubles title

Jamie Murray of Britain and Bruno Soares of Brazil won the U.S. Open doubles championship for their second Grand Slam title this year, beating Spaniards Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-3. The No. 4-seeded Murray and Soares, who won the Australian Open in January, are the first winners of multiple major men’s doubles titles in a season since Bob and Mike Bryan won three in 2013.

Chris Gayle launches his autobiography ‘Six Machine’ in India

Explosive West Indies opener Chris Gayle launched his autobiography ‘Six Machine’, which contains extensive details about his life and career. The book was unveiled Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Anurag Thakur. Thakur said: “The title of Chris Gayle’s autobiography, ‘Six Machine’ aptly describes him and it has indeed been sheer delight to witness the cricket phenomenon created by him.

Angelique Kerber beats Karolina Pliskova for U.S. Open title

Germany’s Angelique Kerber backed up her new billing as the best player in the world with her second career Grand Slam title, and her first U.S. Open trophy. Kerber won the back-and-forth affair 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, fighting from a break down in the third set and outlasting Pliskova in the two-hour, seven-minute match. She becomes the first German player to win the U.S. Open since her childhood idol Steffi Graf did so 20 years ago, in 1996.

US swimmer Ryan Lochte banned for 10 months by USOC

American swimmer Ryan Lochte has been suspended for 10 months and will miss next year’s world championships for his part in a scandal involving the U.S. athlete and three other swimmers at the Rio Olympics. Lochte, who won gold in the 4×200 metres freestyle relay in Rio, will also forfeit bonus money from the Games, monthly funding he receives from USOC and USA Swimming and will not be allowed access toUSOC training centers.
