1. Economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das nominated on RBI Central Board

Union Government has nominated Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das to the Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Mr. Dase is IAS officer of 1980 batch from of Tamil Nadu cadre. His nomination is effective from October 30, 2015 and until further orders.

2.Reservation only on criterion of backwardness : Khurshid

Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid today categorically stated that reservation cannot be extended on the basis of religion or caste but only on the criterion of backwardness.

Khurshid, who was speaking to reporters here, hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accusing Bihar s grand secular alliance of plotting to take away five per cent share reservation for SC/ST/OBCs and giving it to ‘a particular community’.

3.Nanda Kishor Pun elected Nepal’s new vice president

Former guerilla commander from Nepal’s UCPN (Maoist) Nanda Kishor Pun was today elected as the country’s new vice-president.

Pun was today elected as the country’s vice president after winning 325 out of 547 votes. His rival Amiya Kumar Yadav of Nepali Congress, received 212 votes, announced Speaker Onsari Gharti at the Parliament.

4.India-Africa Forum Summit adopts framework for strategic cooperation & Delhi Declaration

On the concluding day of the third India-Africa Forum Summit 2015 here, India and Africa Forum on October 26 adopted a “Delhi Declaration 2015” and “India-Africa Framework for Strategic Cooperation”. The Delhi Declaration called for continued collaboration in the fields of peace and security, besides strengthening of the UN counter-terrorism mechanism and enhancing cooperation and coordination to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

5.Land acquisition for highways has to be done by states:NHIDC

Acquisition of land for highways is the responsibility of state governments and needs to be done within a stipulated timeframe, a top official of the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDC) said.

6.Yuki pockets second title of season, set to re-enter top-100

Yuki Bhambri fashioned an impressive if not dominating win to clinch his second title of the season with a 6-2 7-6(4) defeat of second seed Evgeny Donskoy in the final of the USD 50,000 KPIT-MSLTA Challenger, here today.

It was the best serving day of the tournament for Yuki, ranked 105, as he lost only two points on his serve to quickly wrap up the first set and that set the tone of the match.

7.Swiss pilot Kuffer wins AAI Paragliding World Cup

Swiss pilot Michael Kuffer finished a close second in the final Task today but emerged as the overall champion of AAI Paragliding World Cup here.

The 26-year-old Kuffer finished a mere 14 seconds behind Mexican Manuel Quintanilla but his steady performances in the earlier tasks ensured the overall honours.

8.Bir Billing to be made a world class paragliding site’

The picturesque Bir Billing would be developed into a world class paragliding venue and an 18-hole golf course would also be developed in the area, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said today.

Presiding over the closing ceremony of the week-long Paragliding World Cup Championship organised by Bir Billing Paragliding Association (BPA) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) at Bir Billing near Palampur in Kangra, the Chief Minister said Bir Billing was one of the world’s best paragliding site and expressed hope that more pilots would participate in this event in future.

9.Navtej Singh Sarna to be new Indian High Commissioner to UK

Veteran diplomat Navtej Singh Sarna has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to United Kingdom. An IFS officer of 1980 batch, Sarna is presently Secretary (West). He is expected to take up his assignment shortly

10.Nation pays tributes to the ‘IRON MAN’

PM Narendra Modi paid floral tributes at Sardar Patel statue on Parliament Street in New Delhi. The day is being observed as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. Later at Rajpath, invoking the legacy of Sardar Patel, PM Modi said that it is the responsibility of the countrymen to ensure that India stays united.
