BSNL launches special tariff vouchers for Diwali

BSNL has launched special tariff vouchers (STV) for its pre-paid mobile customers for the Diwali festival.

The vouchers are as follows:

  • The STV of Rs 35 provides 20 paise per minute calls to any network for all local and STD voice call with a validity of 2 days.
  • STV of Rs 48 provides 80 minutes of calls to any network (local and STD) with a validity of 3 days.
  • combo offers for prepaid GSM mobile customers providing talk value and data both at cheaper rates.
  • the state-run firm has also launched night calling STVs for its customers.

Xi arrives in Singapore for China-Taiwan summit

Chinese president Xi Jinping has arrived in Singapore  with Taiwan’s president Ma Ying-jeou,  to attend China and Taiwan summir – the first such meeting since the end of the Chinese civil war. The mainly ethnic Chinese city-state is celebrating 25 years of diplomatic ties with Beijing. It is the first meeting which is to be held after their split in China war.

Russia, India discuss possible pipeline project: Energy Ministry

On November 6, Russia and India discussed the possibility of building a pipeline system for hydrocarbons between the two countries, said the Russian energy ministry .

Chennai’s Prithika to become India’s first transgender SI

K Prithika Yashini, will soon become India’s first transgender Sub Inspector of Police. The Madras High Court has declared the 25-year-old as a fit candidate, paving the way for her appointment as Sub Inspector by the Tamil Nadu Government. The court has also directed the recruitment board to make changes to draw transgenders to the state police force.

Greenpeace registration to operate in India cancelled

Greenpeace India Society has just received notice from the Tamil Nadu Registrar of Societies, summarily announcing cancellation of its registration as a society. While several international leaders, including the United Nations Secretary General have recently upheld the importance of civil society in healthy democracies, this notice is the latest assault on free speech in India. Over the last 18 months, Greenpeace India has endured repeated attempts at suppression through different government authorities, and prepares yet again to seek legal redress.

Chinese VP in India; signs two agreements

India and China on November 7 signed two agreements including one in the field of water resources on sharing hydrological data on the Satluj river. Vice President Hamid Ansari and his Chinese counterpart Li Yuanchao held delegation level talks in New Delhi. Li is the first Chinese Vice president to visit India in more than six decades.
