  1. Lt General AK Bhatt to be appointed new DGMO of Indian Army

Lt Gen A K Bhatt has been appointed as the country’s new Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) and will be in charge of all army operations including on the LoC which has seen heightened tension. Bhatt, a Gorkha officer, replaces Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, who has been appointed as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Mathura-based Strike 1 Corps — one of the three assault forces of the army — which is mandated to cross into Pakistan in a short notice.

  1. 51st Annual DGPs Conference held in Hyderabad

Post-Independence, 51st Annual Conference of Directors General / Inspectors General of Police of States and UTs and Heads of Central Police Organisations will be held on November 25-27, 2016 at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. President’s Police Medals and Police Medals will be presented to the officers of the Intelligence Bureau during the conference

  1. Government launches e-Pashuhaat portal to connect farmers and breeders of bovine animals

The Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh launched e-pashuhaat portal (www.epashuhaat.gov.in) on the occasion of National Milk Day here today. Shri Singh informed that for the first time in the world under the scheme National Mission on Bovine Productivity ‘e-pashuhaat’ portal has been developed for connecting breeders and farmers regarding availability of bovinegermplasm.

  1. India’s first bicycle highway inaugurated in UP

Uttar Pradesh has Asia’s first cycle highway. A first-of-its-kind project, the 207-km-long cycle highway runs between Etawah and Agra and was declared open on Saturday. A rally of 90 cyclists from five countries and across India followed the inauguration ceremony at the Lion Safari in Etawah.

  1. Artisans showcase traditional arts & crafts at ‘Hunar Haat’

Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs launched the logo of ‘Hunar Haat’. National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) under the scheme “USTTAD” ( Upgrading the Skills & Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts for Development ) of Ministry of Minority Affairs. The logo will be used for branding exhibitions.

  1. GOI introduces Income Tax Laws (Second Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha

Taxation Laws (Second Amendment) Bill, 2016 introduced in Lok Sabha; A scheme namely, ‘Taxation and Investment Regime for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, 2016’ (PMGKY) proposed in the Bill.

Evasion of taxes deprives the nation of critical resources which could enable the Government to undertake anti-poverty and development programmes. It also puts a disproportionate burden on the honest taxpayers who have to bear the brunt of higher taxes to make up for the revenue leakage.

  1. MobiKwik launches new app to work with slow internet

MobiKwik has announced the launch of MobiKwik Lite, a light mobile wallet app that is easy to download and works even on basic Internet connection. MobiKwik Lite is less than 1MB in size and can be downloadedwithin 30 seconds. The app is available in Hindi and English and users can download the same by giving a missed callto 80971-80971.

BANKING AND FINANCE

  1. E- commerce firms like Fliplart and snapdeal to deduct TCS under GST

E-commerce operators like Flipkart and Snapdeal will have to deduct TCS (tax collected at source) while making payments to their suppliers, according to the new model GST law, which has done away with the definition of ‘aggregator’.  The measure, Nangia & Co Director Rajat Mohan said, will not increase the incidence of taxation on consumers as the supplier will get tax credit for the TCS. The model GST law provides for 1 per cent TCS to be deducted by the E-commerce operators

  1. RBL Bank ties up with Bajaj finance for co-branded credit cards

Private sector lender, RBL Bank has entered into a slew of tie ups and partnerships essentially to further boost its offering in the highly competitive banking industry in the country. RBL Bank has collaborated with Bajaj Finance to launch a series of co-branded credit cards for the customers in the country. Credit cards would be offered to the customer by the last quarter of this fiscal.

  1. Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board up two advisory panels

The operational framework for insolvency and bankruptcy law, IBBI is being assisted by two advisory panels with inputs on various aspects, including on service providers and corporate liquidation.  IBBI has been set up under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code that seeks to consolidate and amend laws relating to reorganization as well as insolvency resolution of corporate persons, partnership firms and individuals in a time-bound manner.

  1. Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Canara bank tie-up

State-owned lender Canara Bank and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, a private sector general insurer, have signed corporate agency agreement for the distribution of Bajaj Allianz’s general insurance products through Canara Bank’s extensive network of 5,920 branches across the country. Under this strategic agreement, Bajaj Allianz GI will offer its industry’s leading general insurance products to the customers of Canara Bank.

  1. Pakistan allows Russia to use strategic Gwadar Port

Pakistan has approved Russia’s request to use the strategic Gwadar Port for its exports, signaling a new alignment in bilateral relations after decades’ of sour ties during the Cold War era. Following Iran and Turkmenistan, Russia has also decided to use the Gwadar Port for trade to have an access to warm water a top Pakistani official privy to the development was quoted as saying by Geo News.

  1. Afghanistan and Turkmenistan inaugurate railway line

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani and his Turkmenistan counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow officially inaugurated the Imamnazar (Turkmenistan) and Aqina (Afghanistan) Railway Line between the two countries

Asserting that the new railway line had international value Turkmenistan’s president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow said Afghanistan has an important role to play in connecting Central Asia to South Asia.

  1. IAS officer wins gold in Para-Badminton Championships

IAS officer Suhas LY struck gold in the Asian Para-Badminton Championships that was held in Beijing by defeating Indonesian player Harry Susanto in straight sets by 21-4 and 21-11. Suhas, who is posted as the Azamgarh district magistrate, got a wildcard entry to the championships and ensured his seat in the finals by winning six consecutive matches.

OBITUARY

  1. Marathi litterateur Anand Yadav passes away

Noted Marathi author and Sahitya akademi awardee Anand Yadav died in Pune. He was 80. According to sources close to his family Yadav breathed his last at his residence. His autobiography ‘Zombi’ had won Sahitya Akadmi award in 1991.During his illustrious career, Yadav had faced a major controversy over his book ‘Santsurya Tukaram‘, wrote on Sant Tukaram, a saint poet from 17th century.
