  1. IIT Kharagpur named top university in India for jobs

 IIT Kharagpur has been ranked as the top institution in the country by QS Employability Ranking, with IIT Bombay also figuring in the list of top 100 universities in the world. The IIT Kharagpur has been ranked in the range of 71-80, the highest position among Indian institutions, out of 200 universities from across the world.

  1. Ariana wins Artist of the Year at American Music

Canadian rapper Drake won his first ever American Music Awards, Ariana Grande was named artist of the year, and punk band Green Day took aim at newly-elected U.S. President Donald Trump. Ariana Grande-Butera, known professionally as Ariana Grande is an American singer and actress. She began her career in the Broadway musical, before landing the role of Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon television series Victorious in 2009.

  1. Indian journalist honoured with International Press Freedom Award

Indian journalist Malini Subramaniam has been conferred with the International Press Freedom Awardfor her reporting from the Naxal-infested Bastar area, one of the four journalists felicitated by the annual award for their commitment to a free press.  Jailed Egyptian photographer Abou Zeid, known as Shawkan, was given an award in absentia.

  1. Thailand Princess Sirindhorn to be conferred first World Sanskrit Award

Thailand’s Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who arrived an official visit to India from November 20-26, will be conferred the first ‘World Sanskrit Award’ for her exemplary contribution for the promotion of the language. Princess Sirindhorn will meet Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra at following which she will attend a function where the Vice President will present the first World Sanskrit Award.

  1. Donald Trump picks Indian-American Nikki Haley as UN envoy

President-elect Donald Trump  named South Carolina’s Indian American governor Nikki Haley as the US ambassador to the United Nations, a high profile cabinet-rank position that will make her a leading face of the administration’s foreign policy.

  1. Yudhvir Singh Malik new NHAI chairman

Yudhvir Singh Malik, the Special Secretary with NITI Aayog, has been appointed as new Chairman of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).  “Yudhvir Malik who was with NITI Aayog joins as new NHAI Chairman in place of Raghav Chandra.  A statutory body under the ministry, NHAI is entrusted with the task of implementing National Highways Development Project (NHDP), India’s largest-ever highways project.

  1. 13th World Robot Olympiad to Be Held In India for the First Time

The 13th World Robot Olympiad will be held in India for the first time, with over 2,000 students from 54 countries participating to find innovative ways, using robotic technology, to reduce, manage and recycle waste that we daily generate. The World Robotic Olympiad is an event for science, technology and education which brings together young people from across the world.

  1. 5th International Tourism Mart begins in Imphal, Manipur

The 5th International Tourism Mart (ITM) was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Manipur Shri Okram Ibobi Singh   in presence of Union Tourism Secretary Shri Vinod Zutshi in Imphal Manipur. The ITM is organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism in association with the North Eastern States and the state of West Bengal.

  1. Airtel launches India’s First payments bank

Airtel has launched India’s first livepayments bank aimed at testing systems and processes ahead of a full-scale pan-Indian launch, Airtel Payments Bank has rolled out a pilot of its banking services in Rajasthan, a company statement said on Wednesday. Airtel Payments Bank is a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel.

  1. Upgraded Jaguar DARIN III aircraft receives IOC

In a significant milestone for the country’s military aviation sector, the upgraded Jaguar DARIN III twin-seat aircraft has received Initial Operation Clearance (IOC). Deputy Chief of IAF, Air Marshal R K S Bhadauria, who flew the aircraft at HAL airport here recently, announced the satisfactory completion of IOC.

  1. Railways to introduce ‘Tri-Netra’ to check collisions

Railways may soon get an advanced system, called “Tri-Netra”, on its trains which will help reduce train accidents by keeping a record of the track maintenance and will also provide better visibility during foggy days. Senior railway officers said Tri-Netra system is made up of a high-resolution optical video camera, high-sensitivity infrared video camera and a radar-based terrain mapping system.

  1. Andy Murray defeats Novak Djokovic, ends 2016 as World No. 1

The most remarkable year of Andy Murray’s career ended in one of his triumphs as the Scot won the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals here in London for the first time and in so doing sealed his position as the year-end world No 1.  Novak Djokovic, Murray’s perennial rival, would have taken back top spot in the rankings.

  1. Bhullar wins Indonesia Open, JeevMilkha Singh tied-second

Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar won the US$300,000 BANK BRI-JCB Indonesia Open for the second time in his career after closing with a four-under-par 68. Bhullar, who also won the event in 2013, sealed his seventh Asian Tour victory and a second title this season with a 16-under-par 272 total at the Pondok Indah Golf Course.

  1. India to bid for FIFA U-20 World Cup

India will bid to host the 2019 Under-20 World Cup in the coming months as part of its endeavour to develop the game in the country, All India Football Federation President Praful Patel said Patel was confident that winning the bid to host the 2017 Fifa Under-17 World Cup would go a long way to help India gain the opportunity.

  1. Chennai Express’ writer K Subaash passes away

 Tamil filmmaker K. Subaash, the story writer of Shah Rukh Khan’s biggest grosser ‘Chennai Express’, passed away at the SRM Hospital in Chennai. “He was suffering from kidney failure and was on dialysis for the last few years.

  1. Renowned Scientist MGK Menon passes away

Prof. M G K Menon, an acclaimed physicist, who had played a prominent role in the development of science and technology in the country over the last five decades, died.Menon, who served as a minister of state for science and technology and education in the V P Singh government, had earlier worked as Secretary in the Departments of Science and Technology and Environment in the Union government.
