The Madhya Pradesh Assembly passed the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Constitution Amendment Bill. MP became the seventh state in the country to ratify the historic tax amendment bill. Before Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have already passed the bill in their respective assemblies.

The bill has been passed with an aim to make India a common market in terms of uniform tax treatment of trade and commerce across states.

• Besides Madhya Pradesh, the Odisha and Goa assemblies will also organise sessions for passage of the bill. The special session of Odisha Assembly will be held on 1st September , while the Goa government will convene a special session a day before on 31st August.

• The GST Bill was passed by Gujarat Assembly in a similar manner . Like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat assembly also convened a special two-day monsoon session of the state assembly to pass the GST bill. However, the members of the Opposition Congress didn’t take part in passage of the bill. The GST bill requires approval from at least 15 state legislatures before the President notifies the GST Council.
