Sebi ordered defreezing of bank, demat accounts of Gemini Communications

SEBI has finally ordered defreezing of bank and securities accounts of Gemini Communications after it recovered pending dues of over Rs 11 lakh. Accordingly, the regulator has directed banks and depositories to defreeze the accounts of the company. The total dues were Rs 11,30,534 from Gemini Communications which has been recoverea as full and final payment. The dues included interests, all costs, charges and expenses.

Pranab Mukherjee presented the Saakshar Bharat Awards 2015

On the Occasion of International Literacy Day, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, presented the Saakshar Bharat Awards 2015. It was oragnised by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

New species of human relative discovered in South Africa

Scientists in South Africa have discovered a new human-like species in a burial chamber deep in a cave system in South Africa. The researchers claim that the discovery will change ideas about our human ancestors. The discovery of 15 partial skeletons is the largest single discovery of its type in Africa. The reserch was published in eLife.

Indra Nooyi ranks second in Fortune’s powerful women in business list

PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi is the only Indian-origin executive in Fortune’s list of 50 most powerful women in business, which has been topped by General Motors CEO Mary Barra. India-born Nooyi is ranked 2nd on the list, moving up a notch from her third position last year.

Palestine flag to fly over UN headquarters

The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved to raise Palestine flag over the UN in New York. The move is seen as a symbolic step in the pursuit of statehood. The motion was passed by 119 votes, with eight nations, including Israel and the United States, voting against it.

First Dengue Treatment comes closer to reality

As per a new study, first dengue treatment has come closer to reality. Clinical trials for a dengue fever treatment could start within a year, following a discovery by University of Queensland scientists. Dengue virus is estimated to infect up to 400 million people globally each year. The World Health Organisation ranks it as the most important mosquito-borne viral disease in the world.

Europe launches two more Galileo satellites

Europe has put up another two spacecraft in its Galileo sat-nav system. The satellites were launched on a Soyuz rocket from French Guiana.With the successful launch, Europe came a step closer to setting up its own satellite navigation system. The European Space Agency’s Galileo project is meant as a European Union alternative to the U.S. Global Positioning System.

Rajasthan first state to submit Annual Action Plan under Atal Mission (AMRUT)

Rajasthan became the first Indian state to submit its annual action plan under the newly launched Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The Plan targets universal coverage in respect of water supply connections and sewerage connections to all urban households in the state. The State Government has proposed projects under these two categories worth Rs.1,087 cr for approval by the Union Urban Development Ministry during the current financial year.

Make in India : Gionee to invest $50 million

Chinese smartphone maker Gionee will invest USD 50 million (about Rs 330 crore) over next three years to make handsets in India. The company has partnered global manufacturers Foxconn and Dixon to begin India production. Foxconn will start this association by manufacturing F Series and P Series phones from the existing Gionee portfolio. Dixon will be making feature phones and other smartphones for Gionee.
