India to launch Indonesian satellite LAPAN A2/Orari

India will launch a second multi-spectral remote sensing Indonesian satellite that will help the country to monitor land-use, natural resource and in disaster mitigation. The name of the satellite is LAPAN A2/Orari. LAPAN A2/Orari satellite is a successor to LAPAN A1/Tubsat.

India and UAE have agreed to increase bilateral trade by 60% in next 5 years

India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) agreed to enhance their cooperation in all areas of bilateral relations and to increase their trade by 60 per cent over the next five years. The 11th session of their Joint Commission Meeting was held on 3rd September 2015. The meeting was held in New Delhi and was co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al Nahyan.

Greenpeace India’s FCRA registration cancelled

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cancelled the registration of Greenpeace India. It’s been five months that the MHA suspended Greenpeace India’s licence to receive foreign donations. The MHA states that Greenpeace India has “continued to violate FCRA norms”

Palestine Mountain Gazelle now Endangered

Gazelles, the Middle East’s most iconic mammals, whose habitat is in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories,  have dropped to about 2,000 identified individuals. The tan, white and black gazelles are a familiar sight in the Jerusalem forest.

One in five Indian women suffer from PCOS: Study

According to a study conducted Metropolis Healthcare, one in five Indian women suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition characterised by hormonal imbalance. PCOS leads to difficulties in conceiving. The study states that women in the age group of 15-30 years were at high risk.

Former Goa Chief Minister Wilfred De Souza passes away

Former Goa Chief Minister Wilfred De Souza has passed away due to heart attack at the age of 88. He is survived by wife Grace and two daughters Joanne and Suzie. A surgeon by career, he became a politician and served as Goa’s Chief Minister for three times.

Former Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina ordered to Jail

A Guatemalan judge has ordered former president, Otto Perez Molina, to be held in prison while hearings take place over his alleged role in a huge bribery scheme. Recently, Congress stripped him of his immunity from prosecution which opened the way for criminal charges to be brought against him. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Rajavarothiam Sampanthan – First Tamil to lead Sri Lanka opposition in 32 years

Rajavarothiam Sampanthan, a Tamil lawmaker became leader of the opposition in Sri Lanka’s parliament for the first time in 32 years. The 82-year-old moderate heads the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), which emerged from last month’s election as the third-largest force with 16 seats in the 225-member assembly.

Currency Swap – Sri Lanka Central Bank receives $1.1 Billion from RBI

Sri Lanka Central Bank has received 1.1 billion dollars from the Reserve Bank of India under the currency swap agreement between the two reserve banks. This will shore up Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves and ease pressure on the local currency.

Kutiyattam exponent Guru Kidangoor Rama Chakyar passes away

Guru Kidangoor Rama Chakyar, an eminent Kutiyattam exponent has passed away at the age of 88 in Vallachira, Thrissur, Kerala. The world of Indian dance-theater has lost an eminent performer and teacher of Kutiyattam. Rama Chakyar was born in 1927 in Kottayam, Kerala.

RBI to issue Rs 5 coin on Golden Jubilee of 1965 Indo-Pak War

The Banker of the Banks, the RBI has decided to issue 5 rupees coins to commemorate golden jubilee year of 1965 Indo-Pak War. The coins will be legal tender as provided in The Coinage Act 2011. Existing coins in this denomination will also continue to be legal tender.

Navy to develop INS Dega to augment civil and military operations

Indian Navy will acquire more land to create better infrastructure at INS Dega, a Naval air station, located near Visakhapatnam, in Andhra Pradesh on the east coast of India. INS Dega that presently has the only Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) squadron in the country will also have a MiG-29 K squadron.

Obama to Award Medal to Indian-American Author Jhumpa Lahiri

Indian-American Pulitzer Prize winner Jhumpa Lahiri has been selected for the prestigious 2014 National Humanities Medal. Ms. Lahiri, the author of “The Lowland,” will receive the prize in Washington from US President Barack Obama.

Seaweed Collector wins Environment Award

The US-based Seacology, an environment non-profit organisation, has selected Ms Lakshmi for the prestigious Environment Award – Seacology Prize 2015. She has been chosen for her outstanding contribution in conserving the marine resources and cultural traditions of her village, Chinnapalam, a small coastal hamlet in the island.

Kazakhstan : 60,000 Saigas Antelopes Died in 4 Days

Saigas, a type of antelope known for their prominently shaped noses, have been dying at alarming rates this year. Though other species occasionally experience massive die-offs, this one is particularly worrisome, because there are only a few saiga herds left in the world: several in Kazakhstan, one in Russia and one in Mongolia.

Haryana Government wins Skoch Order-of-Merit National award

Haryana Government has won the Skoch Order-of-Merit national award for implementing 6 e-Governance and IT initiatives in the state. The state Government has notified a total of 163 e-Governance services which would be delivered to the citizens at their doorsteps with a view to provide time-bound and hassle-free services.
